Radiation therapy sometimes has a "run through" session before you start the actual radiation treatment


Radiation therapy for cancer treatment uses high-energy beams to destroy cancer cells. In an effort to make sure that the beam is directly over the tumor area, radiation specialists will often call for a planning session called a "simulation" in advance of the real treatment. This is used to map out the exact treatment area. The woman then returns for actual treatment, which will often take five days a week, for around 6 weeks to complete.
